Senior Platform Engineer
Location: On-site, Irvine, CA (5 days/week)
Employment Type: Full-time
Industry: Space Technology
About the Role
We’re seeking a Senior Platform Engineer to take a leading role in designing, scaling, and evolving our internal developer platforms and cloud-agnostic infrastructure. You’ll be a key contributor to the architecture and implementation of high-performance, self-service systems that support both cloud and on-premises environments — all in support of real-world space missions.
You’ll combine hands-on engineering expertise with strategic thinking, helping to guide teams across the organization toward scalable, secure, and portable infrastructure solutions.
Key Responsibilities
Platform Leadership & Architecture:
-
Design and lead the implementation of developer platforms that are cloud-agnostic, scalable, and secure.
-
Architect reusable infrastructure components, patterns, and APIs for internal teams.
-
Drive improvements in container orchestration (Kubernetes) and standardized deployment workflows.
-
Build abstraction layers to decouple platform services from specific cloud providers.
Engineering & Collaboration:
-
Partner with development teams to improve developer experience, CI/CD pipelines, and service reliability.
-
Guide teams in adopting best practices for containerization, IaC, and observability.
-
Mentor junior engineers and influence engineering culture through thought leadership and knowledge sharing.
Operational Ownership:
-
Maintain and evolve AWS infrastructure while working toward more portable deployments.
-
Support production environments, troubleshoot complex systems, and participate in on-call rotations.
-
Lead post-mortems, technical deep dives, and root cause analyses when incidents arise.
Minimum Qualifications
-
5+ years in platform engineering, DevOps, or site reliability roles.
-
Deep Linux expertise and comfort debugging complex systems without heavy documentation.
-
Extensive experience with AWS and Infrastructure as Code (CDK, Terraform, etc.).
-
Strong proficiency in at least one modern language (Python, Go, or TypeScript).
-
Solid understanding of Kubernetes and container orchestration at scale.
-
Proven ability to design for cloud-agnostic environments and portability.
-
Excellent communication and leadership skills — able to influence and guide cross-functional teams.
Preferred Qualifications
-
Experience building internal developer platforms or platform-as-a-product ecosystems.
-
Familiarity with GitOps, service mesh architectures, and multi-cloud environments.
-
Exposure to systems focused on reliability, observability, and developer self-service.
-
Contributions to open-source tools or platform-related communities.
Why Join Us
-
Shape the infrastructure powering orbital debris removal and space domain awareness.
-
Work in a mission-driven environment where your platform decisions have real-world impact.
-
Be part of an ego-free, collaborative team that values curiosity and continuous learning.
