Senior FDIR-FSW Systems Engineer

Job Category: Engineering
Location: Quebec, Canada
Employment Type: Contract
Location Terms: Remote

We’re seeking a Senior FDIR-FSW Systems Engineer to take a leading role in designing, implementing, and validating advanced Fault Detection, Isolation, and Recovery (FDIR) strategies across platform and payload systems.

In this role, you’ll bridge systems engineering and flight software, collaborating with mission-critical teams to ensure spacecraft autonomy and reliability. If you're passionate about mission assurance and thrive in high-accountability environments, this opportunity is tailor-made for you.

What You’ll Be Doing:

  • Define FDIR actions at system and subsystem levels for satellite platforms

  • Document payload-platform interaction strategies for satellite-level FDIR

  • Collaborate with operations teams to design contingency scenarios

  • Work with customers to refine and align FDIR strategies

  • Support the FSW team in implementing and testing FDIR on FlatSat and DSS

  • Coordinate with AI&T to determine FDIR tests at the spacecraft level

  • Analyze FMECAs and fault trees to provide isolation and recovery strategies

  • Align operations procedures, manuals, and test plans with FDIR strategy

  • Provide inputs to satellite databases for parameter and monitor definitions

  • Review designs, ICDs, and ConOps to ensure FDIR compliance

  • Evaluate test artifacts and troubleshoot discrepancies

  • Create Verification and Validation matrices for FDIR requirements

  • Support In-Orbit Test (IOT), anomaly resolution, and FDIR strategy refinement

  • Contribute to ICD development across hardware, software, and databases

What You’ll Bring:

  • A bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, computer science, or related discipline

  • 10+ years of relevant experience in space systems engineering or flight software (advanced degrees may offset experience)

  • Experience with LEO/MEO satellite systems

  • Background in cross-functional collaboration across engineering disciplines

  • Knowledge of satellite systems and subsystems, with FMECA and fault tree analysis familiarity

  • Understanding of fault propagation and system-level recovery techniques

  • Flight software knowledge related to monitoring and FDIR implementation

  • Experience testing FDIR in both hardware and software environments

Nice to Have:

  • Constellation-level FDIR strategy experience

  • Fault tree development and reliability analysis expertise

  • Embedded systems FDIR experience

  • Familiarity with ECSS or PUS services

  • Experience mentoring junior engineers

  • Working knowledge of MS Excel and requirements tools (DOORS, Windchill, Jama)

  • Strong communication skills in English; French language skills are a plus
