Join our team where we're at the forefront of space robotics, pioneering the future of lunar exploration! We're on the lookout for an exceptional Autonomy Software Lead to spearhead the development of innovative autonomous navigation solutions for lunar rovers.

In this pivotal role, you'll take charge of the autonomy software system, ensuring its cohesiveness, effectiveness, and cutting-edge innovation. You'll be the driving force behind integrating various systems into a state-of-the-art autonomous navigation system, propelling our lunar exploration efforts to new heights.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Leading the development and seamless integration of autonomy software for lunar rovers, ensuring a cohesive and innovative solution for autonomous navigation and operations.
  • Providing guidance and support to the Localization & Perception and Guidance & Planning engineering teams, fostering collaboration to achieve overarching system goals.
  • Overseeing the design, development, and rigorous testing of advanced autonomy algorithms, sensor fusion techniques, and navigation systems tailored specifically for lunar surface operations.
  • Ensuring that the autonomy software meets the stringent requirements for space exploration, including reliability, safety, and optimal performance in extreme lunar environments.
  • Spearheading cross-disciplinary collaboration by closely collaborating with mechanical, electrical, thermal, and systems engineering teams to seamlessly integrate autonomy software with rover hardware.
  • Advocating for the adoption of industry best practices in software development and system design, while maintaining the highest standards of quality and innovation.
  • Keeping abreast of the latest advancements in robotics, autonomy, and space exploration technologies, and leveraging new findings to enhance the capabilities of our lunar rover systems.
  • Mentoring and nurturing a team of autonomy software engineers, fostering their professional growth and building their expertise within the organization.

To excel in this role, you'll need:

  • A Master’s degree or higher in Robotics, Computer Science, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field.
  • A minimum of 10 years of professional experience in autonomous systems development, with a strong focus on robotics and autonomous vehicles.
  • Proven leadership skills, demonstrated through successful management of complex engineering projects and interdisciplinary teams, leading them towards innovative solutions.
  • Deep expertise in programming languages commonly used in robotics and autonomy (such as C++, Python, ROS), along with a solid understanding of machine learning and AI applications in autonomous systems.

Preferred qualifications include:

  • A Ph.D. in a field relevant to robotics or autonomous systems, with research focused on applications in space exploration.
  • A track record of innovation in autonomy space systems, as evidenced by patents, publications, or significant project achievements.
  • Experience with end-to-end development and deployment of autonomy software systems in space exploration missions.
  • Familiarity with Human Rating standards and practices for autonomous systems.
