Junior FDIR-FSW Systems Engineer

Job Category: Engineering
Location: Quebec, Canada
Employment Type: Contract
Location Terms: Remote

We’re working with a forward-thinking space organization looking to bring on a Junior FDIR-FSW Engineer to join their System Engineering Department. In this role, you’ll support fault detection, isolation, and recovery (FDIR) activities, collaborating closely with systems engineers, operations, and subsystem teams to ensure FDIR is aligned across platform and payload designs.

This is a great opportunity for an engineer with foundational experience in satellite systems looking to gain deeper exposure to FDIR processes in an operational environment.

What you’ll do:

  • Document fault detection actions at the system and subsystem levels for both platform and payload

  • Collaborate with subsystem, system, and payload teams to review FMECAs and identify effective failure detection and recovery strategies

  • Provide input to the operations team to ensure FDIR strategies align with ops procedures, manuals, and test activities

  • Review ICDs and advise the satellite database team on relevant monitors and parameters

  • Ensure compliance with FDIR requirements across payload, platform, and subsystem design and documentation

  • Validate operational procedures against the overarching FDIR strategy

  • Review test artifacts and determine FDIR test success

  • Contribute to verification and validation matrices for platform and payload FDIR

  • Support in-orbit testing, anomaly resolution, and integration of FDIR strategies with payload operations

  • Assist with development of hardware and software ICDs relevant to fault management

What you bring:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related field

  • 5+ years of relevant experience (can be supplemented with higher education)

  • Solid understanding of LEO/MEO satellite systems and architectures

  • Working knowledge of satellite platforms, payloads, and subsystems

Bonus points for:

  • Experience in constellation-level FDIR

  • Background in creating Fault Trees and FMECAs

  • Familiarity with PUS (Packet Utilization Standard) services

  • Experience working with payload hardware or development

  • Proficiency with MS Excel for technical analysis

  • Strong communication skills in English (French is a plus)
