Spacecraft Assembly & Integration Technician

Our San Diego based client is hiring a temporary Spacecraft Assembly & Integration Technician. The role involves supporting a deep space mission with responsibilities ranging from prototyping to integration. The position requires hands-on skills, self-starting ability, and adherence to tight schedules.

Essential Functions:

Production and processing of flight avionics and harnesses.
Fine pitch soldering and reworking of components.
Constructing flight harness elements with adherence to standards.
Scheduling work activities, maintaining status, and reporting progress.
Recording verification from tests and inspections.
Documenting production details of flight hardware.
Minimum Qualifications:

High school diploma / GED.
2-3 years of wiring harness assembly/integration or electrical and electronics fabrication/rework experience.
J-STD-001ES certification for soldering with Space Addendum or equivalent.
Knowledge of electronics lab practices, ESD mitigation, and ability to interpret schematics and drawings.
IPC/WHMA-A-620, Class 3 Certification for Cable and Wire Harness Manufacturing.
Preferred Skills:

Experience with satellites, launch vehicles, or spacecraft.
Good interpersonal communication skills.
Knowledge of MIL-STD-461 or equivalent EMI mitigation techniques.
Experience with DWV, Hi-Pot, and/or IR testing.
Familiarity with NASA-STD-8739.4A and AS50881 standards.
The ideal candidate should have small team collaboration experience and hands-on execution skills. Non-essential functions may include other duties as required.

Our client are an exciting Space company focused on technology advancement for high-reliability space subsystems. 

Responsibilities:
 

  • Derive and document circuit board requirements from system/top-level requirements.
  • Create schematic drawings for complex Printed Circuit Board Assemblies (PCBAs).
  • Layout and/or guide the layout of printed complex Printed Circuit Boards (PCBs).
  • When/where needed, assist with manufacturing of complex PCBAs.
  • Develop printed circuit board assembly test procedures to assure that performance meets specifications.
  • Validate the design; troubleshoot and test complex circuit boards.
  • Provide system integration and test troubleshooting support
  • Be able to meet aggressive/accelerated schedule deadlines.
  • Support internal and external design and development gate reviews with related documentation.
  • Participate in proposals and trade studies, including evaluating contractor and subcontractor proposals for technical feasibility.

Requirements:
 

  • Minimum Education / Experience: 2-6 Years with Bachelor’s in Science in Electrical or Electronics Engineering and/or Master
  • Hardware/schematic design, analysis/simulations, layout and test experience.
  • Capable of multi-tasking; working on multiple projects & supporting production activities
  • Strong technical background; capable of coming up-to-speed quickly on new technologies.

Preferences:
 

  • Preferred experience with space design, development and manufacturing standards
  • Preferred knowledge of space environmental conditions including EMI/EMC, temperature, humidity, altitude, shock, vibration, acoustics, and decompression.
