Our client who are an innovative Space & Defense client are looking for a Digital Architecture Lead to oversee digital architecture, design, manufacturing and test for a broad portfolio of defense and space systems products.

The ideal candidate will have experience leading the development of aerospace and defense products through the full product development lifecycle. The candidate will apply DfX principles, including design for manufacturability, reliability, test, and cost. The candidate will evaluate existing designs, identify product improvements, support product development process improvements, the creation of product roadmaps, and strategic planning for future product development and maturation.

 Responsibilities: 

  • Provide technical leadership and product development subject matter expertise in digital architecture, design, manufacturing, integration and test.
  • Evaluate existing designs, perform product gap assessments, and make recommendations for future product designs, features, capabilities, and upgrades.
  • Support project planning, including the development of cost, schedule, and technical baselines for product development activities.
  • Support the development of product requirements, specifications, and identification of applicable standards.
  • Provide support for production, delivery, and post-delivery customer operations.
  • Apply DfX principles, including design for manufacturability, reliability, test, and cost to improve product offerings.
  • Develop clear solutions, provide in-depth technical assessments, and proactively identify, address, and resolve issues and risks to drive risk-informed decision-making and product lifecycle sustainability.
  • Assists with technology readiness assessments; identifies risks and issues with proposed technologies while collaborating with other teams (i.e., Test & Evaluation, Integrated Logistics Support, etc.).
  • Perform engineering analysis on organizational technical processes; suggests process improvements that increase efficiency and/or effectiveness of operations as required.
  • Travel: 10-20% for an on-site candidate; up to 25% for remote candidate

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, mathematics, physics, computer science, or equivalent technical discipline.
  • 15+ years of experience working in the aerospace and defense industry.
  • 10+ years of experience in product design, development and/or manufacturing.
  • Ability to demonstrate engineering principles and concepts.
  • Solid analytical and problem-solving skills; able to sort through complex issues and develop clear solutions, provide in-depth technical assessments and identify, address, and resolve issues and risks.
  • Expertise in PCB/PCBA, FPGA, microcontroller, embedded software design, development, integration and testing.
  • Knowledgeable in industry standards such as IPC-2200, IPC-6010, IPC-610, and the NASA-STD-8739 series, as well as other critical aerospace and defense requirements.
  • Experience in requirements development and analysis, and the development of systems engineering-related documents including requirements/specifications, interface control documents, and validation & verification plans.
  • Ability to coordinate with numerous stakeholders/customers from NASA and DoD agencies to commercial industry. 

Preferences:

  • 10+ years of program or technical leadership experience.
  • 10+ years of experience in architecture/requirements definition/analysis, acquisitions, engineering/design, fielding/integration, and verification or analysis.
  • Demonstrated product development process improvement experience.
  • Relevant experience engaging government and commercial customers to advance projects and initiatives at varying degrees of complexity through engineering management.
  • Proficiency in various enterprise tools, including enterprise resource planning, product data management, product lifecycle management, quality management, manufacturing resource planning, and engineering design and analysis

Digital Communications Architect

Our exciting Space client in the Los Angeles area are looking for a Digital Communications Architect to work across cutting edge Communication Systems for Satellites, Spacecraft, and Aerospace systems.

Looking for a strong background in High-speed Digital, DSP, RF Systems, and Satellite Communications. This role will include driving New Product Concept Development, providing Technical Leadership, and supporting Business Development efforts including Proposal responses.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
 

  • Lead the development of innovative digital communications products, from initial concept through to deployment, leveraging extensive knowledge of high-speed digital, DSP, and RF systems.
  • Provide technical leadership and support in proposal efforts, including the development of customer-facing technical documentation and presentations.
  • Collaborate with the Business Development team to support customer calls, offering expert technical insights that align capabilities with customer needs and market opportunities.
  • Engage in feasibility studies and early-stage technical analysis, guiding the strategic direction of programs before formal contract awards.
  • Act as the Pre-contract Chief Engineer, assisting in defining Statements of Work (SOW) and Requirements (Reqs) for contract definitization.
  • Lead the development of technical transfers from R&D into full product execution, ensuring seamless transitions and maintaining product integrity.

IDEAL EXPERIENCE:
 

  • Bachelor’s or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, Computer Science, or related field.
  • 15 – 20 years of experience in developing high-speed digital, DSP, and RF systems for terrestrial and space applications. Extensive experience in system architecture, product implementation, and technical leadership.
  • Strong background in digital communications systems, RF architecture, FPGA design, and DSP algorithms.
  • Expertise in satellite communications payload architecture, including digital channelization and digital beamforming.
  • Deep understanding of radiation effects and radiation mitigation in commercial ICs.
  • Hands-on experience with PCB design, layout, and fabrication of high-speed digital/SERDES, RF, and hybrid stack-up boards.
  • Demonstrated success in leading cross-functional teams, mentoring engineers, and providing technical oversight to ensure successful project execution.
  • Proven experience in supporting technical proposals and customer presentations, especially in complex system-level solutions.
  • Expertise in systems architecture for both terrestrial and space-based systems, including defining technical requirements and making strategic design decisions.
  • Proficient with design and simulation tools for digital, RF, and DSP systems, including FPGA design and verification.

DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE:
 

  • Experience with digital beamforming arrays and high-performance signal processing systems.
  • Understanding of regulatory standards and requirements for satellite communication systems.
  • Experience with radiation testing and developing solutions for radiation-sensitive applications in space.

As a Principal Narrowband Communication Systems Engineer, you’ll lead the design and operation of TT&C systems, model and maintain link budgets, and integrate hardware and software across mission phases.

What you’ll be doing:
 

  • Own the RF link – model, analyze, and manage link budgets and modulation/coding
  • Define and configure TT&C radios, modems, and antennas
  • Create mission operations concepts including contingency comms and recovery
  • Integrate with software and ground teams to test and validate end-to-end comms
  • Troubleshoot and solve complex low-SWaP communications challenges

What we’re looking for:
 

  • 7+ years in satellite communications or RF systems engineering
  • Strong background in TT&C, S-band, and narrowband space comms

Test Engineer III

Electrical Test Engineer III

Our Space client in San Diego are looking for an Electrical Test Engineer III to work in a project team environment as an individual contributor on new test architectures design and development and/or sustaining engineering tasks.

Responsibilities will include functional performance and environmental test architectures design, development, scheduling, and execution.
 
Responsibilities: 
 

  • Review device and system level functional specifications, design documents and project documents.
  • Participate in the review of design and coding of software products.
  • Ensure that all developed test protocols are and/or can be automated, follow testing standards, and are documented.
  • Develop work estimates and status reports for each test effort. 
  • May lead and coordinate part or all of the testing effort for a project. This usually requires development and tracking of a test plan and test schedule as well as the reporting of test results.

 
Requirements:

  • Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or Electrical Engineering, with concentration in software; or equivalent knowledge in the areas of software engineering.
  • Extensive background in test engineering with demonstrated technical skills.
  • Expert level configuration of ATE components including rack instrumentation and PXI architectures.
  • Excellent track record developing test automation software using LabVIEW, LabWindows/CVI, Python, C#, Visual Basic.
  • Working knowledge of Windows and Linux operating systems
  • Experience with test tools and equipment, with emphasis on high end spectrum and vector network analyzers.
  • Experience writing and executing test procedures; Strong documentation skills.

 
Desirable:

  • Working knowledge of SolidWorks and basic mechanical engineering concepts related to bed of nail test fixtures design and construction.
  • Previous experience testing RF devices operating in the S, X and Ka bands
  • Previous exposure to optics and laser communication technologies
