In this role you will:

  • Develop and communicate descriptive, diagnostic, predictive and prescriptive insights/algorithms of limited scope.
  • In product/systems improvement projects, uses machine language and statistical modeling techniques to include but not limited to decision trees, logistic regression, Bayesian analysis and others to develop and evaluate algorithms to improve product/system performance, quality, data management and accuracy.
  • In both theoretical development environments and specific product design, implementation and improvement environments, uses programming language and technologies to translate algorithms and technical specifications into code.
  • Complete programming and implement efficiencies, perform testing and debugging.
  • Complete documentation and procedures for installation and maintenance.
  • Apply deep learning technologies to give computers the capability to visualize, learn and respond to situations of limited scope.
  • Lead technical teams and scope challenging projects into executable sprints.
  • Drive code reviews to help the team adhere to general DevSecOps and MLOps best practices.
  • Adapt ML to areas such as virtual reality, augmented reality, artificial intelligence, robotics and other products that allow users to have an interactive experience.
  • Interface with external vendors and partners to integrate their technology into the team’s autonomy stack.

Requirements:

  • A minimum of a bachelor’s degree in Engineering.
  • Must have an advanced understanding of ML concepts, principles, and theory.
  • Demonstrated ability to follow and apply advanced ML knowledge, adapt cutting-edge standard techniques, and utilize the required diagnostics, tools and equipment, while ensuring safety and regulatory compliance.
  • Experience in developing and leading scalable software architectures from scratch.
  • Experience in optimizing AI models to meet edge processing requirements.
  • Strong coding skills in Java, Java Script, C/C++, Python.
  • Experience in AI frameworks, such as Tensorflow and/or pyTorch.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must be able to architect, design, and develop complex software.
  • Technical expertise in the application of engineering principles, concepts, theory, and practice as well as project management and leadership skills including organizing, planning, scheduling, and coordinating workloads to meet established deadlines or milestones.
  • Demonstrated recent history of academic quality publications in the area of AI/ML and autonomy.
  • Must be able to understand new concepts quickly and apply them accurately throughout an evolving environment.
  • Strong communication, computer, and interpersonal skills are required to enable an effective interface with other professionals, to produce appropriate documentation, and to present results to a limited internal audience.
  • Must be able to work both independently and on a team.
  • Customer-focused, must be able to work on a self-initiated basis and in a team environment.
  • Availability to travel as required – Up to c. 25%.
  • Holding or being eligible to obtain a DoD security clearance.

Compensation package:

An exciting Autonomy & AI Test Engineer opportunity has just arisen with a global leader in the field of proven and dependable remotely piloted aircraft, tactical reconnaissance radars, and advanced high-resolution surveillance systems.

In this position, your responsibilities will include crafting test scenarios, aiding in the establishment of automated testing workflows, providing assistance for Software-in-the-Loop (SIL) and Hardware-in-the-Loop (HWIL) testing endeavors, and offering support during flight tests as required. A vital component of this role involves meticulously documenting any identified issues and effectively communicating with the entire software and hardware stack to expedite issue resolution or establish a path forward for resolution.

This role also entails collaborating with a diverse array of professionals, spanning from technicians and developers to potential engagement with upper management. The purpose is to facilitate the dissemination of discoveries and contribute to the orchestration of comprehensive software and hardware testing, encompassing both aerial and
ground-based evaluations.

Responsibilities:

  • Autonomy and AI product testing encompassing developing test plans, running testing from lab to live planes, interfacing with customers, and generally being responsible for testing the overall system plus AI-related SW as needed communicating issues to developers.
  • Work with stakeholders through the life cycle creating test plans, test cases, and test execution of software features.
  • Develop concise reports or issues and track them from creation to closing.
  • Work with flight test team to verify the SW is safe to fly on an aircraft and ensure successful flight events.
  • Development of test automation systems and automated test cases.

Requirements:

  • A minimum of a bachelor's degree in Engineering.
  • Basic understanding of systems test concepts, theory, and operations and experience demonstrating those skills.
  • Customer-focused.
  • Ability to develop solutions to a variety of non-routine problems;
  • Strong verbal and written communication and presentation skills to accurately document and report findings to a variety of audiences.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to influence and guide other employees and managers.
  • Ability to quickly learn new concepts and systems plus how to test them.
  • Familiarity with developing automated tests in SW test frameworks.
  • Familiarity with Python, C++, Java, or equivalent language as it relates to testing and analysis of test results.
  • Experience with CI/CD tools such as Jenkins or Gitlab.
  • Ability to work independently or in a team environment is essential, as is the ability to work extended hours and travel as required.
  • Eligible to obtain and maintain a DoD security clearance.

Servo Controls Engineer

In this role you will:

  • Analyze, design, develop, support and troubleshoot control algorithms for servo systems, antiskid brakes, environmental control systems and power electronics for unmanned air vehicles and ground support equipment.
  • Will be responsible for analog, digital, S-domain and Z-domain controller design with appropriate analysis, modeling and simulation.
  • Responsibilities also include electrical, mechanical and software test and/or test support in the lab and in the field to verify system performance and troubleshoot problems. This includes test set-up and test data collection.
  • Multidisciplinary responsibilities include plant characterization of electronics, electromagnetic devices, servo mechanisms and aircraft structures.
  • Responsibilities also include requirements definition for individual servo components (electric motors – power, speed, torque; gear trains – reduction ratios, lash, friction characteristics; feedback devices – resolution, accuracy, noise, etc.). This includes supporting in-house design or locating off-the-shelf vendor components and/or helping vendors develop components to meet requirements.
  • Responsible for all documentation necessary for sound engineering development (lab notebooks, test reports, trade studies, block diagrams, hand sketches, theory of operations, white papers, etc.).
  • Responsible for all documentation necessary to support production (test procedures, test records, bill of materials, interface control drawings, source control drawings, change requests, change notices, etc.).
  • Responsible for generating documentation as necessary for customer support (slide presentations, field instructions and troubleshooting memos, field alert bulletins).

Requirements:

  • A minimum of a bachelor’s degree in Engineering.
  • Experience in closed-loop control analysis and design including S-domain and Z-domain controllers.
  • Must have analytical and practical knowledge of electromagnetic and mechanical devices.
  • Must have hands-on hardware experience.
  • Holding or being eligible to obtain a DoD security clearance.
